Town Beautification:
142 plants from Prides Corner Wholesale Nursery, including red, white and coral Knock-Out Roses, Russian Sage and Prima Angelina Sedum. The funding came from our annual flower budget and a generous donation from Thea Ackerman’s estate. The roses that we will be planting downtown on May 24 in the park and the Foot of Main are in memory of Thea.
75 plants were given to The Ancient Order of Essex Weeders and were planted on May 18 by the Weeders in the islands along Route 154 at the intersection of Route 153. They have been maintaining these islands for years and will continue to mulch and water the new plants. Richard Levene has purchased a 32 gallon water container he placed in his car to make the process of watering easier.
The other locations which have been or will be planted are:
Foot of Main
Various locations in the Town Park
South Main Street by Rt 154 Island
Centerbrook Island
Centerbrook PO
Comstock Rd, Ivoryton Island
Essex Ambulance
Essex Fire Dept
Annuals this year:
Silent Policeman
Front of Town Hall planters
Town Park pots
Transfer Station
If you haven't signed up for Wednesday's planting activities, please do so now via VSP. This is a REQUIRED activity for all Active Members. All volunteers will be meeting at the Gazebo at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 24. Please join us!
ps: Remember the beautiful daffodils in Essex this Spring? Joan Paul from the Griswold Inn generously donated all the daffodil bulbs that were in their early spring window boxes. We now have more than 10 large pots of daffodils that we will be adding to the Park at Wednesday's planting activity for next year's Spring Bloom. So we definitely need all the help we can get!!

Do You Have A Gardening Question?
Consider visiting the UConn Extension Master Gardener "Ask Us A Question" Website. On it, you can submit a question about any gardening topic (flowers, veggies, shrubs, trees, pests, disease). In addition to your getting an answer from an expert (typically along with references), you also help a student in the Master Gardener program earn their degree.
